As part of the NHS Patient Choice scheme, you may now be able to have your NHS treatment at Midland Eye.

What is Patient Choice?

Patient Choice is a government initiative introduced to give NHS patients more choice about where and when they are treated. It means that NHS patients in England who require hospital treatment will be offered a choice of hospitals or clinics for their treatment (including participating private hospitals) by their GP and one of the options could be Midland Eye. Further information on Patient Choice can be found on the NHS website.

Can I choose Midland Eye for my NHS treatment?

Yes, however, not all of the services and treatments offered at Midland Eye are available as part of the Patient Choice scheme, only selected specialties. Also the number of appointments allocated to the scheme is limited, so we may not always have availability. To find out if you can have your NHS treatment at Midland Eye, simply ask to your GP.

How to book and appointment

Once you have chosen Midland Eye for your treatment from the choice of hospitals offered by your GP, it is likely that your GP or other practice staff will book your appointment for you whilst you are in the surgery. Alternatively, if you wish to book your own appointment, please contact us on 0121 711 2020.

The current NHS guidelines are 18 weeks from seeing your GP to receiving hospital treatment.  If you would like to have your consultation or treatment sooner than this, then you may wish to consider coming as a private patient instead (see the section for self pay patients).

Once your NHS appointment has been booked with us, you will receive a letter from Midland Eye confirming the details of your appointment and any instructions you may need to follow in preparation of your appointment.
