Macular referrals

Please see below the update from the CCG for new macular referrals. After 18 March 2019 the Macular referrals fax number will go back to 0121 424 4532 for UHB-HGS. If any referrals remain to get faxed through to Midland Eye after then they will send them directly on to UHB-HGS. For any queries please call the team on 0121 711 2020.

When to Refer into the Wet AMD Rapid Access Service

When a patient presents with the following signs and symptoms please refer urgently:

For the inclusion of Wet AMD treatment in accordance with NICE guidelines the visual acuity criteria is 6/96 or better.

  • decrease in central visual acuity
  • blurred vision
  • metamorphosia (lines appear crooked or wavy)
  • central paracentral scotoma
  • difficulty reading

Description

Operated by Action for Blind People under contract to Solihull Social Services. The resource centre is staffed by volunteers from 10.15 – 12.15 Monday to Friday, or you can make an appointment by calling 0121 711 2020.

Services offered include:

  • home assessment
  • mobility training
  • everyday living skills training
  • provision of equipment to assist with everyday living
  • information and advice
  • social coffee mornings once a month
  • Eccentric Viewing Training
  • braille lessons
  • everyday products and equipment to try
  • basic computer training

Certification of Visual Impairment (CVI)

Midland Eye will support patients with visual impairment to complete Certification of Visual Impairment (CVI) and will be signed off by the Consultant Ophthalmologist if this is appropriate whilst under the care of Midland Eye.
