Global training initiative founded by Midland Eye’s Prof Shah launches this weekend
An exciting new international training programme developed by a global faculty of leading ophthalmologists, including Midland Eye’s Professor Sunil Shah, is to be launched this weekend.
The Global Education and Research Society of Ophthalmology (GERSO) is holding its inaugural digital meeting this weekend, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September (from 1:30 – 5:30 PM GMT), with free training being streamed live online for ophthalmologists at any stage of their career. Each day will feature four informative and engaging hours of topics for all levels of education, from young ophthalmologists to intermediate and advanced ophthalmologists.
Ophthalmologists and optometrists at all stages of their career are invited to participate and can register for free.
GERSO is a new body that aims to share learning and best practice for ophthalmologists at all levels and experience. The society also aims to provide an ophthalmic residency program remotely so that everyone around the world can access the highest level of education from ophthalmology experts.
Midland Eye’s Professor Sunil Shah was one of the GERSO founders and will be moderating a session on day one of the digital conference, Saturday 26 September, on the topic of ‘Penetrating and endothelial keratoplasty – from the basics to advanced’. Midland Eye is also represented at the GERSO event by Mr Ankur Barua, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, who will be chairing the prestigious Young Ophthalmologists group.
Over 1,000 delegates are expected to join the live stream over the two days and benefit from a packed agenda which includes sessions on:
- Refractive: Multiple presentations covering the basic to advanced aspects of refractive surgery.
- Cataract: Managing zonulopathy. Hooks, CTR, sutured or glue IOL support, Yamane and more.
- Glaucoma: Structure and function in glaucoma diagnosis. MIGS surgery and RCT in glaucoma.
All content presented in English will be translated into Spanish and Mandarin to make the event accessible to people around the world.
