Professor Sunil Shah performs Femto Cataract Surgery before a live audience
Lens-Softening-With-a-Femtosecond-Laser-Cataract-Refractive-Surgery-Today-Europe-ARTICLEThe British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) were treated to a BCLA first when Professor Sunil Shah performed live Femto Cataract surgery at this year annual clinical conference.
The surgery which was watched live via satellite link by over 400 delegates, witnessed one of the first of a new generation of Intra Ocular Lenses being implanted by Prof Shah.
Andy Yorke BCLA president commented ‘we were a little apprehensive when we decided to add such an ambitious but fantastic event to our conference agenda. However, there was no doubt it was one of the major highlights of this year’s conference and the feedback we received from our delegates was fantastic’.
The highly specialist equipment needed to undertake the Femto Cataract procedure is available at Midland Eye’s centre in Solihull where Professor Shah operates.
